Buckinghamshire Grassroots Endowment Challenge

The Big Idea

Buckinghamshire Grassroots Endowment Challenge provides the opportunity for existing and new community foundation donors to increase the value of new donations to the endowment fund. In its simplest form, the government will add £1 to every £1 donated by private donors for local causes.

Until March 2011 Buckinghamshire Community Foundation is offering the opportunity to increase the value of any donation you make to the Endowment Fund. The interest gained from the Endowed Fund is distributed to local community projects to meet local need and the interests of the donor. Through the Office of the Third Sector, the government will match funds for the benefit of Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe districts.

Are you committed to our county and have a passion for Buckinghamshire? Are you a Philanthropist? Will you join us in the Grassroots Match Challenge?

This is fantastic news! The value of your donations will be increased by at least 100%, and along with the usual tax benefits for charitable giving, there has never been a better or more cost effective way to give for long term benefit and impact.

Your contribution today will support future generations of local community projects and ensure investment in communities in the future.

What kind of projects are benefiting?

Wycombe Winter Night Shelter (WWNS) received a £5,000 Grassroots Grant over two years in September 2008.

The aim of WWNS is the relief of need among homeless people in High Wycombe and the surrounding area by the provision of temporary shelter accommodation, advice and assistance. Dinner, bed and breakfast is provided by homeless guests during the three coldest winter months.

WWNS identified a need for an advice and advocacy support service to homeless individuals in the district of High Wycombe. This Grassroots grant of £5,000 over two financial years will enable this service to be set up. A WWNS board member commented on accepting the grant “the support of the Foundation during our reach into the unknown was so reassuring.”

If you donate £25,000 or more you can establish a Named Fund with the donor describing their philanthropic preferences, by theme and/or geographical area.
