The existing two buildings comprising the Scout and Community centre have exceeded their practical life and are in need of replacement. The cost of maintaining and repairing these buildings is rising year on year and represents a major financial commitment to the Group. The existing facilities are poor and new legislation, particularly in respect of disabled access will require major building works to upgrade the existing buildings which will be costly and essentially abortive as the buildings are not capable of significant extended life.

The centre is regularly used for Scouting activities, and by a dance school, a Pre-school, the Guide Association, dog training club, computer gamers and the Borough Council and intermittently for many diverse activities. We have had approaches from numerous other organisations but due to the restricted nature of kitchen and toilet facilities the centre cannot be used for their needs.

Our plan is to build a new community centre to replace both existing buildings; providing a similar overall floor area but configured to provide a much more usable layout with access to facilities that will greatly improve the ways in which the centre can be used and provide greater access for community use.

The new centre will incorporate many cost effective measures to reduce the embedded and ongoing carbon footprint of the centre and will be able to accommodate a greater number of users as there will be no restrictions or barriers to entry due to inadequate facilities. This will greatly improve and enhance the experience for all user groups.
