Need
Youth unemployment is at an all time high, funds raised from this project will be immediately effective in creating opportunities for these young people to become positive and active citizens of the future. Young Same Sky want to develop Burning the Clocks to involve marginalised and disengaged young people from the estates they live in to bring them and the whole city together and secure the future of this unique event
Solution
Developing the skills of the current cohort and embedding young creative leaders into our local events establishes advocates for integrated community participation. Acting as peer mentors will empower them to make a difference in their own communities and to secure the future of this local event. They will gain transferable skills in event design, project management, production, costume design, light art, choreography, community outreach, workshop facilitation and fundraising.
Aims
Create real life work experience opportunities for young people in an artist led participatory event
Activities
» Run 10 workshops in the local estates designed and delivered by young same sky.
» Involve young same sky, local schools, community groups and front line services in the evalutaion process
Success will be... Enrolling 25 young people on to the project and involving 3 local schools or front line service providers in the planning process.
Impact
It will secure the development of the youth led arm of the company called Young Same Sky. Train them in all aspects of the business including fundraising which will then define and plan and shape its sustainable future. This project will help to develop the next generation of young leaders in the private and public sector, creative industries, community, voluntary and education sector. Success will be 5 young people gaining employment in these areas and 10 gaining a gold arts award.
Risk
The risk is that we are oversubscribed. We have dealt with this by developing close links with local front line services, schools and colleges to prepare a waiting list of opportunities. We are now actively fundraising to deliver Young Same Sky projects throughout the year with specific developments attached to key flagship events.
Reporting
Donors of this project will receive monthly email/ blog reports from the young people, detailing project and individual progress or any changes to planned activity. They will be invited by the young people to finale events and celebrations.

Location
The project workshops are located on the following estates Whitehawk, Moulsecoomb, Hollingdean, Coldean and Peacehaven. These are on the outskirts of the city of Brighton and Hove. The event brings all communities together for one evening in the city centre.
Beneficiaries
Young Same Sky come from geographical areas of deprivation across these estates in Brighton and Hove. The estates that they live on are on the outskirts of the city and It is difficult for them to access cultural and creative opportunities let alone training and employment. Our work aims to develop the core skills of these young people and create opportunities for them to thrive as individuals so that they can contribute to their community and the City.
Why Us?
Same Sky is a high profile and ever evolving artist led events company we offer an established infrastructure within which to explore the potential to develop creative leadership. The project is based on a model we used to train our volunteers to become freelance artists, creative industries professionals and leaders in community and education settings. We are an experienced team with longstanding community relationships and contacts for recruiting, working with and supporting young people.
