Need
Kamuli Mission Hospital is the only hospital in the region and many villagers and children have to walk long journeys to get there and the very ill have to be carried on makeshift stretchers. There is a need for a preventative healthcare program to be taken out into the community - to keep people well and to lessen the need for a hospital visit.
Solution
Our mobile medical clinic - a specially converted vehicle kitted out with all the necessary medical equipment - will go out regularly into the community, offering a child immunization program, treatment of common infections such as malaria, coughs, diarrhea and also HIV-AIDS testing, counseling and treatment. Medical Aid International is helping us to source and equip the vehicle and Kamuli Mission Hospital will provide the medical staff. This will make a real difference to the people of Kamuli.
Aims
To provide an adapted and fully equipped vehicle to take basic medical care out into the community.
Activities
» Source, convert and kit out the vehicle - with stretcher/portable operating table, generator, clinic tent, portable lighting, fridge, microscope, etc.
» Source additional medical kit such as drugs (via the hospital), vaccines, cool boxes (for vaccines), syringes, bandages, mosquito tents, etc.
Success will be achieved by the monitoring of where the vehicle goes, how often, no of patients seen & less visits to the hospital.
To provide a preventative healthcare program to the region - via proper counseling and education.
Activities
» Work with the nurses of KMH to provide education about living with HIV-AIDs, proper drinking water, washing hands, using mosquito nets, etc.
Success will be achieved via the monitoring of disease outbreaks and having people in the field to report back on their successes.
Impact
The mobile medical clinic will get basic healthcare out into the Kamuli community - where they rarely see a doctor. The children will be vaccinated against malaria and other diseases & educated about these and HIV-AIDs - hopefully leading to less people having to walk to Kamuli Mission Hospital to get treatment, when often it is too late.
Risk
Not achieving enough funds to properly get the project off the ground and running on an ongoing basis. Eg. Rising cost of fuel in Uganda. To compensate for the vehicle not being used for proper medical purposes - we have partnered with Kamuli Mission Hospital to operate and oversee the mobile medical clinic.
Reporting
We will obtain ongoing information from Kamuli Mission Hospital - with regards to where the vehicle goes, how often and how many patients seen + monitoring treatment given. We will report back to donors on a regular basis - via newsletters and on the website.

Location
The mobile medical clinic will run out of Kamuli Mission Hospital into the Kamuli area - which is in SE Uganda - about 4 hours drive NE of Kampala.
Beneficiaries
This is a large, poor rural area with a population of 750,000. The majority of the people are poor and cannot afford medical treatment from the Government or private clinics.
Why Us?
Our charity works in the Kamuli area - and the founder Annette Mbedha wanted to set up a mobile medical clinic as an initial stage of her dream to set up a Community Centre offering health, education, social and cultural services to the Butansi community in Kamuli.
