Burning the Clocks with Young Same Sky

December 2011 - December 2012

The Big Idea

A legacy project designed by 16- 25yr olds to develop their employability and enterprise skills. Through work experience on a local event Burning the Clocks we provide young people with transferable skills in event design, light art technology, fundraising, community and project development

Need

Youth unemployment is at an all time high, funds raised from this project will be immediately effective in creating opportunities for these young people to become positive and active citizens of the future. Young Same Sky want to develop Burning the Clocks to involve marginalised and disengaged young people from the estates they live in to bring them and the whole city together and secure the future of this unique event

Solution

Developing the skills of the current cohort and embedding young creative leaders into our local events establishes advocates for integrated community participation. Acting as peer mentors will empower them to make a difference in their own communities and to secure the future of this local event. They will gain transferable skills in event design, project management, production, costume design, light art, choreography, community outreach, workshop facilitation and fundraising.
